Single
Regals is a five-piece alt-country band with members from New Hampshire and Maine. From their 2026 release “Regaltown, USA”, their song “wallfly” blends gritty rock guitar with the cosmic whine of pedal steel, and surely makes my list of “Top 10 Songs to Pine To”. The track’s production has the depth and crispness of a studio recording while retaining the small idiosyncrasies that make live music special. From the buzzing string in the opening note, “wallfly” is in the room with you – no pun intended.
Despite being saturated in longing, a ripping rhythm section makes “wallfly” danceable and builds an undercurrent of urgency. This sensation is intensified by lead singer Ryan Rock Egan’s rapid, dare I say breathless, delivery which suspends listeners in time before releasing them to the relief of shredding instrumentals with a simple refrain: “Where you been? Where you going now? Yeah, I’d like to be a fly on your wall”. Listen on bandcamp. (Erin Morse)
