Q: What is Americana?
A: According to the Americana Music Association, Americana is “contemporary music that incorporates elements of various American roots music styles, including country, roots-rock, folk, bluegrass, R&B and blues, resulting in a distinctive roots-oriented sound that lives in a world apart from the pure forms of the genres upon which it may draw. While acoustic instruments are often present and vital, Americana also often uses a full electric band.”
Like the proverbial melting pot that is America, Americana has evolved from the music traditions of many different geographical areas and cultures. Americana may often reflect or pay homage to those styles while at the same time interpreting the music in a new way.

A: Please email info (at) newenglandamericana.org specifying that you are interested in being involved as a writer and let us know what your interests are. We can assign you music to review, but we are also open to discussion if there is some particular music you’d like to cover. Q: Other than supporting and promoting local artists and bringing together the music community, what does the New England Americana Association and the New England Americana Fest do?
A: Though events and help from the local musicians and music community, the New England Americana Association (through the New England Americana Fest) has raised over $4,000 for the Boston Children’s Hospital.

A: While the New England Americana Fest has done a lot of positive things; bringing community together, promoting a ton of New England artists and raising thousands of dollars for charity, we have to come clean….
